Franklin Academy Athletics
Franklin Academy offers a variety of competitive sports for eligible students in grades 7–12.
The NCDOE and NCHSAA have rules governing eligibility status (updated as of 3/28/25), which are available here. See the Athletic Handbook for Franklin Academy's additional eligibility requirements related to daily attendance and grades.
Franklin Academy believes participating in athletics teaches young people many life lessons. The athletic program at the Franklin Academy purposes to complement the academic program in the development of well-rounded students. While a strong academic program is the focus at the Franklin Academy, the athletic program complements that mission by helping to develop character, discipline, teamwork, and other life skills that benefit the student/athlete and by supporting the overall mission of the Franklin Academy.
The prevailing ideals of the athletics program at Franklin Academy include the following priorities:
(1) academics first
(2) sportsmanship
(3) teamwork
(4) personal growth
Pursuing and adhering to these ideals helps promote good character for all student-athletes at the Franklin Academy.
Parental involvement is also critical to the success of the program, and, as such, parents are requested to support the standards and goals of the Franklin Academy by keeping the long-term goals and priorities of Franklin Academy academics and athletics first and foremost.
According to Franklin Academy policy, academic events for which the student receives a grade (drama performance, band concert, art show, etc.) take precedence over athletic practices or contests. The student-athlete must notify his/her coach, as soon as possible, of any such conflicts. Furthermore, participation in athletics does not exempt students from dressing out and participating in physical education classes.
Decisions and policies made that limit or eliminate student participation in sports at our school are subject to NCDOE and NCHSAA guidelines, conference bylaws, and the mission of the Franklin Academy. Franklin Academy expects all student-athletes to exhibit leadership in the areas of behavior and academics and views participation in athletics as a privilege. Only students actively enrolled in Franklin Academy may participate in interscholastic athletics and intramural sports.
